I am thrilled to be back for another month of the Home Depot Gift Challenge! With baby #2’s due date looming over me, I never know what I’m going to be able to accomplish, but I love participating in this monthly challenge! For those of you who are new to the challenge, each month we [myself and a group of fabulous bloggers!] pick an item from Home Depot and a gift recipient, and we each make a unique project using those items. This month’s item was a Hose or Gear Clamp, and our recipient was ourselves. Technically, my gift will end up in my daughter’s room, but it helps keep the room tidy and improves my sanity, so it’s basically a gift for me too! haha. I’m excited to share my stylish Art Supply Caddy :)

PLUS! Stick around for your chance to win a Home Depot Gift Card at the end of the post!!

Metal Gear Clamp 4 inchIt all starts here: with this Metal Gear Clamp. I chose to buy a four inch one, because I knew it would fit perfectly around my tin cans, but if you have different sized cans, the clamps come in many sizes.

I also grabbed these old tin cans [above]. I chose old David’s Tea cans because they have rounded edges and I don’t want my daughter to hurt her little hand reaching in, but any tin can will work if you sand the edges down.

Metal clamp spray paint

Next, I grabbed my Metal Gear Clamps and my tin cans to spray paint them.

For the clamps, I used Gold Metallic Spray Paint by Krylon, and for the cans, I used White Spray Paint by Krylon.

Gold knob

Since I was making a Caddy, I wanted to add a handle as well. So I grabbed a Hardwood Dowel 1/2 In. x 48 In, and cut it down so that it was the size of my cans, plus approx 3 inches. Then I grabbed an old metal drawer knob we had lying around (similar: Metal Drawer Knobs) and glued it to the top. I then painted the handle with Gold Metallic Spray Paint by Krylon as well.

Finished Tin cans
To attach everything, I simply slid the wooden dowel handle through all three hose clamps in the centre, then I tightened the clamps so that everything was nice and snug. A perfect little Art Supply Caddy was born :)

Since I can’t help myself, here are a few pics of my beautiful daughter using her new art supply caddy. Sorry, no smiles here folks! Colouring is a very serious business!

Honestly, I cannot tear my daughter away from this little slice of colouring heaven. She wakes up saying, “Milk? Colour?”, lol.
Do you have someone in your life who would be glued to this colouring caddy?

I love to re-purpose and this is so perfect. I like the hose clamps too. They give it a sort of industrial look but at the same time serve an important purpose. I love it and your daughter is adorable! It looks like she was having a great time. Thanks so much for sharing at #HomeMattersParty

This is such a great idea! Can you tell me also how I get my kids to put the supplies back into the container when they are through using them? That's alway my problem. Love this though! Thank you for linking with #momsterslink.
